It has been a great surprise to everyone visiting Kent County Public Library’s Chestertown branch to discover that the circulation desk is gone!
If you had peeked in the windows on the morning of October 1st , you would have seen library staff with crow-bars and saws, cheerfully pantomiming dismantling the old desk in excited anticipation of the changes to come.
“This desk has been a fixture here since 1977,” said KCPL assistant director Chris Roseberry, “and it’s served us well. But the time for change has come!”
Now, when you enter, you see bright new flooring, generously funded by the Friends of Kent County Public Library. The new desk will arrive in early November, creating a workspace that is designed to accommodate 21st century technology and to be more easily accessible to all patrons.
“We’re so fortunate to have a state capital grant with County matching funds and support from the Friends of Kent County Public Library,” executive director Jackie Adams explained. “People are going to be wowed!”
KCPL has been dedicated to remaining open as much as possible during the renovation. However, they will open at noon on November 3 when the new desk is delivered and installed.
