Yes, they have been compared to the Avett Brothers on more than one occasion, but Parsonsfield, a five-piece band from Connecticut has created their own version of Americana, integrating banjo, mandolin, a pump organ and guitars into a rock and roll inflected, buoyant bluegrass sound. The group is performing Saturday, October 31 at the Garfield Center for the Arts in Chestertown as part of the SULTANA Downrigging Weekend.
Parsonsfield has toured steadily since their inception in 2010. Their debut album impressed the critics, including the New York Times: “…they are boisterously youthful yet deftly sentimental… I fully expect to hear more from this band as the years go on.” The UK’s Maverick Magazine called their first album “A blistering energetic debut.”
The band consists of Antonio Alcorn, mandolin, Chris Freeman, vocals & banjo, Harrison Goodale, (aka Whale), bass, Erik Hischmann, drums, and Max Shakun, pump organ and guitar. They just finished recording a new album, part of which was done in Parsonsfield, Maine, the inspiration behind their name. Listen to their songs at www.parsonsfield.com/gallery.
The Saturday, October 31 performance begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $20, $15 for students with ID, and are available on line, at www.GarfieldCenter.org, by calling the box office at 410 810 2060, and in person at the theatre.
The Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre is located at 210 High Street, Chestertown, MD, 21620.
