This summer, the complete HVAC replacement was scheduled for Garnett. The project began as soon as school was out in June. The project was funded by the state and Kent County Commissioners. We knew the installation project was going to be tight and we would be challenged to be ready for opening on the first day of school.
This week, due to unforeseen problems during the installation, it became evident to administration, it would be unrealistic to begin school on August 25th. Therefore, administration made a decision to begin school on August 27th for grades K-5 and August 28th for PK. Open House will held on August 26 from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Although the decision to delay the opening of school is inconvenient, the superintendent and school officials made this decision in order to protect the safety of students and staff. We certainly want to ensure the HVAC system is fully operational before school begins and that teachers are given adequate time to prepare their classrooms for students.
