The event will take place on August 29, 10 AM-Noon, at Unity Church Hill Nursery, 3621 Church Hill Road, Church Hill, MD. Following a presentation by Jennifer Dindinger and Eric Buehl, Regional Watershed Restoration Specialists, attendees will visit nearby Camp Pecometh to view an example of a Living Shoreline Project. The event is free and open to the public, but please call 410-556-6010 to reserve your space.
Living Shorelines are designed to stabilize natural shorelines, while functioning to reduce erosion, clean the air, increase habitat, minimize pollution, and enhance enjoyment of the waterfront. Vegetation and other natural materials are used to protect and preserve the natural function of the shoreline.
Jennifer Dindinger and Eric Buehl are Regional Watershed Restoration Specialists with the University of Maryland Sea Grant Extension Program. Michael Jensen is President of Unity Landscape Design/Build, the company that designed and constructed the Living Shoreline at Camp Pecometh. The Chester River Association procured a grant for the Camp Pecometh project through the Chesapeake Bay Trust. The shoreline project was completed in October 2013.
