If you were rubbing your eyes in disbelief Thursday evening, join the club.
Those weren’t 21-speed Bianchi bicycles peddling through town, some with wheels taller than your car. If it had been a moment in sepia tone, with a little ragtime music in the background, you would have belonged to a another century altogether.
Known as “The Wheelman,” the group of avid cyclists are members of a non-profit organization founded in Delaware 48 years ago “dedicated to keeping alive the heritage of American cycling.” Their website states that over 1000 members in North America and internationally enjoy the sport of vintage bicycle riding. Chestertown is the site of their 48th gathering.

Too bad this wasn’t publicized before the event. I would have liked to have seen this. Also,they would have been a wonderful addition to the Fourth of July parade in RockHall.

The Spy agrees. We did not see a press release from or about The Wheelmen. A note from a friend alerted us at the last moment.
