The Chestertown RiverArts second annual Art of Stewardship Exhibition will run from Thursday, April 2 – Thursday, April 23 in the RiverArts Gallery, 315 High Street, Suite 106. This promises to be a remarkably creative show both in terms of interpretation of the theme and the very broad range of media. Marcy Dunn Ramsey, a renowned Chester River artist and president of the Chester River Association curated and juried the show. Internationally acclaimed artist and the founder of the Art of Stewardship Project, Greg Mort, will judge the show. Awards include Best of Show Second and Third place winners.
The imagery in the show ranges from highly realistic to painterly to completely abstract. The media include the traditional media such as oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, egg tempera and prints. There is a considerable collection of photographs which are quite varied from traditional and digital images to glass sphere photography, photo montage, and photos with encaustic waxing. Other media include a mosaic, stoneware tiles, soapstone and metal sculptures, a bas relief of hand made cotton paper and acrylic, and more.
A Preview Reception and Award Ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 2, 5:30-7:30 (Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.) Greg will speak about Stewardship and announce the prizes. He has also graciously offered to critique works at the artist’s request.
On First Friday, April 3, the exhibit will be free and open to the public from 5:00-8:00pm. Gallery hours are Tuesday, 11:00-4:00, First Friday, 11:00-8:00, and Saturday, 10:00-4:00.
