Four H.H. Garnett students received award certificates during Tuesday’s town council meeting for some mega-reading accomplishments.
Mariah DeAndrade (2nd Grade), read 32,119 words, Aaron Saunders (3rd Grade, not present at council meeting) read 821,421 words, Braiden Bakeoven (4th Grade) read 510,895 words, and Alystair McKenzie (5th Grade) read 635,570 words.
They all received Golden Tiger Awards for winning the Staff vs. Students Reading Counts Challenge.
The reading challenge program was designed using Apple educational software similar to this.SRC_iPad
Councilwoman Linda Kuiper, an advocate and mentor in the school reading programs introduced the students and presented them with certificates of merit.
“I’m proud of being a part of the reading program at Garnett Elementary School,” Kuiper said.
