Kent School is inviting children and their parents to attend a series of fun, Saturday morning workshops designed to beat winter boredom. The workshops will be held on January 24, February 21 and February 28. The sessions will run from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Kent school’s pre-school staff and arts teachers will offer activities in music, arts and crafts, and physical education respectively. There is no charge and the public is welcome. All activities are designed for children ages six and under. Parents should plan on staying on campus while their children participate. During program breaks the students will have access to activities in the Little School classroom and on the playground. The Little School teaching staff will be on hand to guide the children.
On January 24, Music teacher Kate Bennett will lead a “Stories and Songs” session in the Kent School library. Kate will entertain and involve children in read-aloud stories, singing with musical accompaniment and audience participation.
On February 21, Little School teachers will lead the children in arts and crafts projects. “We’ll provide the tools for the children to make their own masterpieces to bring home. There will be a couple of stations so children can choose which materials they would like to work with to make their art,” said Julia Gross, Little School Director.
On February 28, Physical Education teacher Erin Kent will lead a session that will get kids moving through age-appropriate obstacle courses and exercise activities. “Sometimes it’s hard for any of us to keep moving in the cold winter months. We will guide the children through fun activities that will keep them moving from start to finish,” said Kent.
All workshops are planned with several breaks so the children can move around and explore the Little School facilities and other campus features. Gross continued, “We’ve designed these activities with a few goals in mind. First, we always want to create fun and interesting activities for children. We also want to offer a few activities to beat winter boredom. We all tend to stay inside during these cold winter months but we’re offering families a few reasons to come out and enjoy the community. Finally, we want to share the talents of Kent School’s teachers with the community. We are always proud of our commitment to the arts and this is a way to showcase that.”
Director of Admission, Tricia Cammerzell will be on hand to offer tours of the school to anyone interested.
