UM Shore Regional Health nurse practitioners celebrated National NP week with an open house/reception at Shore Medical Group on November 15 organized by Dale Jafari, MSN, CRNP, FNP-BC, of Shore Women’s Care, and Michele Wilson, Vice President of Physician Services for UM Shore Regional Health. All CRNPs received special coats in recognition of their service to their patients and to the broader Shore Regional Health community.
According to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, there are more than 192,000 nurse practitioners recognized to practice in America today. National Nurse Practitioner Week, November 9-15, celebrated these exceptional health care providers and reminded lawmakers of the importance of removing outdated barriers to practice so that NPs will be allowed to practice to the full extent of their experience and education.
In Maryland, there are more than 3,500 NPs, according a proclamation signed in early November by Governor Martin O’Malley for the statewide observation of Nurse Practitioners Week.

Nurse practitioners provide a full range of services, such as ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic tests; diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions; prescribing medications and treatments; and managing overall patient care. Nurse practitioners are informed, in touch and involved, making them the health care providers of choice for millions and a solution to the primary care crisis in America.
