Good Samaritan Fund Partners with Foundation

The Good Samaritan Fund has partnered with the Mid-Shore Community Foundation (MSCF).

This announcement is made by MSCF President, Buck Duncan; TACL Chairman, Bishop Joel Marcus Johnson and Fund Administrators, Walt Johnson and Bill Ball. Project participants include Rabbi Peter Hyman, Rev. Kevin Kinsey, Rev. Dee Pinder and Rev. Nancy Sajda.

The Good Samaritan Fund was established in the 1980’s by the Talbot Association of Clergy and Laity (TACL) to assist area residents in financial distress.

Now operating as a component fund of the MSCF, the Good Samaritan Fund qualifies as a tax exempt charitable organization and donations to the Fund are fully tax deductible.

Under the guidelines of the Good Samaritan Fund, applicants facing eviction or utility cut-off may receive up to $100 in assistance. Applicants may not apply more than once in a 12 month period and the funds go directly to the utility company or the landlord.

Each applicant’s request is verified. “We are very fortunate to have a good working relationship with area landlords and also with utility companies,” said Walt Johnson. “This allows us to verify the information and avoid those who might abuse the program.”

The Fund is run by volunteers and operates from a virtual office.
