University of Maryland Chester River Health Foundation is hosting its third annual “Chester River Crab Chase,” a 5K Run/Walk, on Saturday, September 27 in Wilmer Park in Chestertown. Proceeds will help create a new 12-bed Alzheimer’s and Memory Care Unit at UM Shore Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at Chestertown.
The event is also a Team Tri-Sports Ultimate Challenge event and is designed for people of all ages and athletic levels. The registration fee is $20 if registered before September 22 and is $25 thereafter and includes a souvenir shirt and a “pamper station” at the conclusion of the race. Registration is free for the Kiddie K, which is designed for children 10 years old and under.
On the day of the race, registration begins at 8am with the race starting at 9am. Prizes will be awarded for male and female race winners in many categories as well as for the teams and individuals raising the most funds to benefit the new Alzheimer’s and Memory Care Unit. Additionally, the top fundraising team and individual will have their names engraved on the beautiful perpetual Chester River Crab Chase pewter platter/trophy, which will be displayed at UM Shore Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at Chestertown, until next year’s event.
