Kent County Public Library hosted “Fizz, Boom, Read!” summer reading program finales on August 14, 15, and 20 at the KCPL Chestertown, North County, and Rock Hall locations.
The Kent County Public Library’s end of summer reading parties at all branches brought with them a sea of green as a total of 157 kids wore their summer reading t-shirts, enjoyed food, participated in various games and activities, received free books, and, in Chestertown, grooved to a performance by the Dinkendo Family Band. This year, 313 kids and teens registered for the summer reading program and added their names to the Fizz, Boom, Read Readers’ Wall at the library. As an added bonus, the library promised a free Kindle e-reader to the school with the most registered students and this year’s winner was Worton Elementary School.
Throughout this summer of science, the library invited children and teens to attend various programs that ranged from making slime to learning about water bugs. Preschoolers made play dough and shaving cream art. School-age kids enjoyed egg science, tested acids and bases, and even set off a geyser outside! Teens designed and created their own buttons and experimented with acrylic paint marbling. Kids experienced science in a hands-on way this summer that directly engaged them with the world around them. Various pieces of art were collected and hung in the library from kids who wanted them displayed as part of their summer reading journey.
The library congratulates all of its summer readers and encourages them to keep reading all year long. For more information please contact the library at 410.778.3636 or visit www.kentcountylibrary.org
