Kevin and Cynthia Milller want to bring savory BBQ ribs, chicken and pulled pork delights to town as Papa Smurf’s BBQ mobile kitchen and sought support and instruction from the town council during the September 2 meeting.
The Millers, Chestertown residents since 2006, have already fitted-out a food truck and received permission to park on private property near the new roundabout at the intersection of High Street and Morgnec Road.
They were given application material to take to the September 17 Planning Commission.
With approval from the Planning Commission and Health Department, the permit fee would be the same as the previous permit granted for the taco truck: $150 for a three month trial.
The Millers have a combined 15 years of food service background and look forward to their new venture as Papa Smurf’s BBQ.
“Kevin makes a mean, mean BBQ,” Cynthia says. “We’re ready and looking at October 1st to open.”
And the sweet, smokey scent of BBQ might be lacing the autumn air in Chestertown.
Gren Whitman says
YUM! We need a good barbecue joint around here! Do we have to wait ’til October? I’ll be their first customer!

Glad to hear these mobile food trucks have finally come to C’Town.
But why way out there? Not exactly within walking distance of anywhere.
Too bad they can’t be located downtown!
John East says
Fountain Park or the foot of High St. would be better locations. They’re safer and it would be great to put all the food trucks together. Fountain Park–which used to be called Market Square–has been the site of food sales since this town was created. Plus, both areas have plenty of parking, are pedestrian friendly, in plain view of people passing through town, and have areas for people to sit while they wait or sit and eat.
James Dissette says
Ed. Note; This idea was mentioned at the Town Council meeting last night. Ward councilmen will be asking restauranteurs for input.
