The Chester River Hospital Auxiliary recently created the new position of Manager of the Nearly New Shop and Gift Shop at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown. After twelve years of service, Lois Smith, the former Gift Shop manager, retired. Molly Streit, manager of the Nearly New Shop took over this new position as manager of both retail establishments, which are run by the Auxiliary.
“Members of the Chester River Hospital Auxiliary and its Board of Directors are grateful for the years of service that Lois dedicated to the organization as manager of our Gift Shop,” comments Sue Edson, Auxiliary president. “Her tireless commitment to fundraising in support of the Auxiliary and the programs and services offered at Shore Medical Center at Chestertown is most appreciated and she will be greatly missed.”
The Auxiliary is supported by an army of volunteers, many of whom dedicate their energies to support patient care efforts at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown by raising funds to benefit hospital programs and services. Auxiliary funds are primarily raised through sales at the Gift Shop and at the Nearly New Shop.
The Gift Shop, which opened its doors in 1965, is located on the first floor of the hospital. It offers a variety of gift items, jewelry, books, cards, holiday themed decorations and snacks. The Nearly New Shop is a thrift shop, which accepts donations of and resells gently used adult clothing, shoes, accessories, household items and books. Located in downtown Chestertown at 320 High Street, the Nearly New Shop has been a part of the community since 1958. Both retail establishments are staffed by Auxiliary volunteers.
“Volunteers are an essential part of the work done by the Auxiliary,” comments Streit. “Without the commitment of our volunteers and the hours of service they devote to the hospital Gift Shop and the Nearly New Shop, the Auxiliary would not be able to do all of the wonderful things it does to support our local hospital and the community it serves.”
The Chester River Hospital Auxiliary is currently looking for additional volunteers to support its services at both the hospital Gift Shop, the Nearly New Shop, and for the support services it provides to the hospital staff at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown through its In-House Volunteer Program. For additional information about volunteer opportunities with the Auxiliary, contact Sue Edson, president at 410-348-2159.
