QA Hospice Hosts Sunset Celebration Aug. 22

Hospice of Queen Anne’s has a waterfront party planned for Friday, August 22 at the Fisherman’s Crab Deck in Grasonville. The Sunset Celebration begins at 5:00 pm and continues through 9:00 pm with food, fun and friends gathered for a good cause. Tickets are $65 in advance and $75 at the door.

“Pull on your shorts, slip on your flip flops and come out to mix and mingle with your friends,” says Kenda Leager, development officer for Hospice of Queen Anne’s. “We have reserved one section of the Crab Deck for our guests for this last hurrah of the summer. Treat yourself to an evening out without the kids and help us celebrate the many ways we care for people of all ages in the community.”

Food is the centerpiece of the Sunset Celebration. The menu for this picnic style buffet will feature pulled pork, fried chicken, baked beans and other summer delights. The meal ends with sundaes for dessert. Ticketholders enjoy beer, wine and soft drinks served throughout the evening.

The Sunset Celebration puts the ‘fun’ in fundraising with as many as 50 silent auction items. Guests will vie for jewelry, gift baskets, art work and more on the auction tables.

Sunset Celebration partiers can play Pick-the-Crab, a game of chance in which everyone is a winner. A $20 donation is exchanged for a crab with a number that corresponds to a variety of gift certificates. All of the gift certificates are worth at least $20 with some as high as $75.

“The people who come out for the Sunset Celebration and other fundraising events are the heart of Hospice of Queen Anne’s,” says Heather Guerieri, executive director of Hospice of Queen Anne’s.   “Their financial support allows us to continue to provide the highest quality, compassionate care for patients and grief support for their families and for others in the community who have experienced a loss.”

Guerieri adds, “No one is ever turned away because of their inability to pay for our services. This means that we rely on the generosity of the community to help us fill the gap between what it costs us to provide hospice care and grief support and the reimbursement we receive from Medicare, Medicaid, insurance and private payments.”
