As Dragonfly Heart Camp celebrates its 7th year of operation as a non-profit organization, the true founder of Dragonfly, Chestertown’s Sarah Cataldo, takes a few minutes to answer questions and discuss Dragonfly’s programs and future. After Sarah’s heart transplant in 2006 she came up with the idea of a special week-long summer camp for chronically ill children who could not attend a main stream camp due to activity restrictions, medical apparatus, the need for medical supervision, etc. She envisioned a program that allowed the “kids to be kids,” while providing the necessary medical safeguards. Two years in the making, Dragonfly made its camp debut in 2008, and has been going strong ever since, expanding beyond a summer camp experience to young adult weekend retreats and programs.

Editor,
First of all, I want to say what a wonderful job Sarah did of presenting the story of Dragonfly. However, I’m sorry that Sarah didn’t mention the unbelievable and fantastic job that Echo Hill has done to accommodate the campers all of these years. Their staff, along with the dedicated staff at CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia) has created such a loving and positive atmosphere for the kids and everyone involved has benefited tremendously. Hopefully this relationship will continue for many years to come, and will benefit more and more kids each year.
