Charyl “Sam” Ricketts, BSN, RNC, community liaison for University of Maryland Chester River Home Care & Hospice, was one of three speakers at a recent Maryland Minority Outreach and Technical Assistance Program (MOTA) provided recently in Butlertown, Maryland.
Offered by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, MOTA provides health care outreach to underserved counties, including Kent County.
The April 19 event, held at Butlertown’s Mt. Olive AME Church, was an all-day event based on the theme, “Body, Mind and Spirit.” Ricketts’ presentation was on the body with a particular focus on lifestyle measures to prevent heart and lung disease, diabetes, hypertension and cancer. She also provided information for young people regarding sexual health and avoiding undesired consequences of casual sex.
