In honor of Earth Day, Washington College will screen the award-winning documentary Trashed. Featuring international film star Jeremy Irons, the documentary addresses the global problems of waste and pollution. The screening will take place at 6:00 p.m. on that Tuesday, April 22, in Litrenta Lecture Hall, Toll Science Center.
Sponsored by the Center for Environment & Society, the Student Environmental Alliance and the Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences, the screening is free and open to the public.
Directed by Candida Brady and produced by Blenheim Films, Trashed (2013) investigates the extent and consequences of global pollution, as well as solutions to the problem. The documentary premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and has now been screened at more than 46 film festivals and in over 40 countries. It also has been shown to various political bodies, including the Houses of Parliament in London, the National Assembly in France, and the European Parliament in Brussels. Trashed has won eight awards, including the “Audience Award – Movies that Matter” at the MAUI Film Festival, “Award of Excellence” and “Best Editing” at the L.A. Movie Awards, and “Grand Prix” at the Kyiv International Documentary Film Festival in Ukraine. The New York Times wrote, “That plastic bottle in your hand will feel as dangerous as a molotov cocktail.”
