The Chestertown Council on Monday approved a bid from McCrone Engineering to draft a concept plan for the future of the town-owned marina — the first step in making decisions “that have been tabled…for several years,” said Mayor Chris Cerino.
Cerino reiterated his earlier promise to hold public meetings once the engineer was hired to help determine “options of what the marina could become and to get as much public input as possible with the engineering/design team present.”
“I would like to have that initial meeting pretty soon,” Cerino said. “We need to shortly pick a date when that will happen.” He said he wanted the first meeting in May.
Cerino said the first public meeting would give McCrone ideas for the initial concept plan, which will be available at the town office and on the town’s website in advance of a second meeting, where the public will provide additional input.
“We need to make these decisions about what we want that marina to be–so we can price out what we need to do and start raising money in earnest,” He said.

McCrone was the middle bidder at $39,990–but offered a scope that was more comprehensive than the two other firms that placed bids, said Chestertown Town Manager Bill Ingersoll. The two losing bidders were Lane Engineering and DMS, who bid $40,000 and $39,950 respectively. All three bids were within $50 of each other.
McCrone will be paid from a Maryland Department of Natural Resources Waterway Improvement Program Grant of $40,000 from 2012, which the town is already in receipt.
