Kent School is hosting its annual auction on April 12, 2014. The Red-White Ball will celebrate 45 years of school traditions. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on wonderful items in the silent and live auction, enjoy hors d’oeuvres, dinner and an open bar. All of this is followed by music provided by Brian Cole’s band, Hired Guns. The Red White Ball will be held under a tent on Kent School’s beautiful campus.
Nicole Wagner, auction co-chair and Kent School alumna said, “We have some great items in the auction this year like a stay at the Ritz Carlton in Miami, South Beach, a ski condo near Breckenridge, Colorado, and some trips to places warm and wonderful.” Catherine MacGlashan, another alumna and co-chair said, “We’re looking forward to having lots of graduates come to the auction this year. They all know how strong the Red White team spirit is. They’ll want to represent their team.”
The Red-White tradition at Kent School is as old as the school. Each student is assigned to either the Red Team or the White Team when they join the community. Family members are all on the same team so team loyalty is passed on through generations. The two teams compete with each other throughout the year in athletics and bees. The final competition of the year is held on Play Day when the two teams compete in several events.
Mike Williams, Kent School teacher and Red – White historian said, “People often ask why we have Red Team and White Team when our school colors are blue and white. It is a good question with a very simple answer. When the school opened in 1968, the only pinny colors we had for gym were red and white.”
Proceeds from the Red White Ball support all facets of Kent School’s educational program. The event is open to the public.
Tickets are $110 per person and tables for 4, 8, or 10 are available for purchase. For more information visit kentschool.org/auction or call 410-778-4100 ext 12.
