The chilly March weather was no hindrance to animal lovers of all ages who attended the third annual Chili Cook Off to benefit the Humane Society of Kent County on Sunday, March 23, 2014.
Seven local chefs competed for the honor of best chili recipe. O’Connor’s Pub won first prize, Uncle Charlie’s Bistro garnered second, and Chef Robbie Jester, representing Crow Farm, came in a close third. The event was part of a weekend of activities at Crow Farm and Vineyard in support of the Humane Society, on Saturday the farm’s yellow labs, Babe and Myrtle, celebrated their birthdays in style.
The silent auction and raffle tables featured a fair number of animal, and especially dog-themed items, with some serious bidding wars over horseback riding lessons and a dog bed with a basket of treats.
The Humane Society of Kent County wishes to thank all who donated to the auction and raffle, the restaurants; The Fish Whistle, Galena’s Kitchen, Herb’s Soup & Such, The Imperial Hotel, O’Connor’s Pub, Uncle Charlie’s Bistro, and Chef Robbie Jester, for their creations and their time, we know how busy you all are! Special thanks to Judy and Roy Crow, their staff, and Babe and Myrtle for all their help in creating a successful weekend – the Humane Society raised close to $3000.
A reminder: the Mutt Strut is only a few weeks away, mark your calendars. Registration is 9 am in Fountain Park, with the parade starting at 10 am. Following the “strut,” there will be fun and games on the court house lawn. Entry is $10.
