Linda Dutton will discuss the efforts of the Chestertown chapter of PFLAG to achieve passage of legislation offering non-discrimination protection for Marylanders based on their gender identity and expression at the Thursday, March 20, morning meeting of the Community Breakfast Group (CBG).
Founded in 1972 with the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the nation’s largest family and ally organization. Made up of parents, families, friends, and straight allies united with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT), PFLAG is committed to advancing equality and societal acceptance of LGBT people through its threefold mission of support, education and advocacy. PFLAG now has over 350 chapters and 200,000 members and supporters crossing multiple generations of American families in major urban centers, small cities and rural areas in all 50 states.
The Chestertown branch of PFLAG has been active and evolving for the past two years. Beginning as a volunteer group primarily aimed at advocating for marriage equality in the November 2012 election, we have evolved to be much more. As we enter our third year, the changing needs and challenges facing all ages of the LGBTQ community and their families continues to be a meaningful and rewarding area for advocacy work in our rural community
The CBG meets for breakfast every Thursday at 7:30AM at the Holiday Inn Express in Chestertown. Our meetings start promptly at 7:30AM, so you may want to come at 7:15AM to get your breakfast before the meeting.
Linda Dawson will update CBG on the progress of Kent Forward and the KCPS at our March 27 meeting.
