The Mainstay comes to Betterton as Chesapeake Scenes presents their songs and stories of the Chesapeake Bay at the Betterton Community Center, 100 Main Street in Betterton, MD on Sunday February 23 at 4:00 pm. The concert is free. It is sponsored by the Betterton Community Development Corporation.
Chesapeake Scenes is Mainstay founder and Director, Tom McHugh, spoken word artist Captain Andy McCown and musicians Bill Matthews and Tom Anthony. They will present their ever-changing mix of songs and stories that pay tribute to the beauty and majesty of the Chesapeake Bay, the people who live on its shores and work its waters.
This is not a show for children, but teens and tweens as well as adults will enjoy and be inspired by the songs and stories that are about everything from the love of an old boat, to a waterman working in winter, to what’s on the table in an Eastern Shore home.
Included will be original songs and poetry by Tom McHugh who sings and plays banjo and harmonica, spoken word pieces gathered and presented by Andy McCown and bluesy guitar and vocals by Bill Matthews – all with the support of Tom Anthony on bass.
