St. Anne’s Episcopal School will host “Affording an Independent School Education” an informative workshop on February 26 from 6:00-7:30pm in the school library at 211 Silver Lake Rd in Middletown. The evening will also provide details about the school’s two $7,500 Middle School Merit Scholarships for new 5th-8th grade students, a Q&A and tours of the school. This event is free, open to the public, and people are asked to register at [email protected] or (302) 378-3179 ext 321.
The workshop will provide information on various ways to help make a private education more affordable including an overview of the needs-based financial aid program. “Roughly 30% of St. Anne’s families receive some form of financial aid,” notes Head of School Peter Thayer, “part of our mission is to provide financial support to families who are committed to education but cannot meet the entire tuition commitment.”
Information about St. Anne’s two Community Merit Scholarships for $7,500 per year for new Middle School students applying for grades 5-8 for the 2014-15 academic year will also be provided. “We are seeking students with strong, well-rounded academic and extracurricular abilities who are entering Grades 5-8. Our hope is they will not only benefit from, but also add to the St. Anne’s community,” explains Middle School Head Lora Byrd.
The Community Merit Scholarships will provide a $7,500 award per year to each of two chosen students for the number of years that they attend the school. Candidates must complete a school application (available at the school and at https://www.saintannesschool.org/scholarship.php) by March 15, 2014 and indicate their desire to be considered for a merit scholarship. Applicants must have an interview and a day of classroom participation. Parents are also expected to tour and meet with school administrators. For details inquire online or contact Jan Ross, Director of Admissions, (302) 378-3179.
“Repeating the success of last year, anonymous donors have made it possible for us to offer two more Community Merit Scholarships to reach out to our broader community,” notes Head of School Peter Thayer. “This program supports our commitments to academic excellence, spiritual development, diversity and inclusion – cornerstones of the Episcopal school tradition.”
Since 2002, St. Anne’s has maintained an average class size of 15, and a student/teacher ratio of 7:1 in Preschool (age 3) through Grade 8. “Our students are known by their teachers. We can tailor instruction and focus on joyful learning in this small, caring community,” adds Thayer. “Our curriculum is dynamic and includes science, Spanish, music, art, religion, physical education as well as special electives and interscholastic sports (starting in 6th grade.)”
There is no area residency requirement for the scholarships. Current St. Anne’s students live in all three Delaware counties as well as northern and eastern Maryland and Pennsylvania. The school’s Transportation program details and fees are available online.
All candidates may apply separately for assistance through the St. Anne’s Financial Aid Program, which is need-based and requires an online application each year.
St. Anne’s Episcopal School is a co-ed independent day school for children Preschool (age 3) through 8th grade (https://www.saintannesschool.org).
