Former two-term House of Delegates member and recent Community Liaison for Congressman Andy Harris, MD-1, Richard Sossi of Stevensville in QAC formally filed for the State Senate seat in the 36th Legislative District. Sossi noted his widely recognized record of “being everywhere” and of “always responding” when he was a delegate.
Sossi pointed out, “in the 2010 election, the margin between my opponent and me, with almost 11,000 votes cast was only 124 votes.” Sossi added, “the 2010 election was seen by many as as a smear campaign, so much so that almost 1,000 voters cast write-in protest votes in the General Election.”
Sossi stressed that his experience as a combat veteran of the Vietnam War and his recent work as a Veteran’s Affairs constituent service staffer for Congressman Harris was the reason for citing as his primary campaign issue the plight of our veterans. In particular, the alarming number of suicides. Other issues he noted included the lack of adequate mental health services on the shore, the continued financial assault on our farmers and watermen and, in quoting Ronald Reagan, the need to get “the government off the backs and out of the pockets” of our small businesses.
