For those living in the Chestertown area, one sometimes has the unique impression that the Landskroener family has been in Kent County since the 19th Century. But, in fact, the first of the tribe arrived in the late 1940s when the family started Delmarva Sash and Door Manufacturing in Queen Anne’s County.
Nonetheless, they seem to be everywhere. There are lawyers, teachers, and dozens of kids running around Chestertown and Centreville with that same surname. More infamously, there is also the famous “Landskroener pour”, which tips off local bartenders that the customer wants a much more than half full glass of wine. And finally, Chestertown has its own local version of the Barrymores, the extraordinary Landskroener thespians.
One of the key players of this special acting circle is Jim Landskroener. An Native son of Chestertown, long-term faculty member at Kent School, and now president of the board of the Garfield Center for the Arts, Landskroener talks to the Spy about his and wife Diane’s history with acting, the importance of community theater, as well as the very funny and sometimes ironic thin line between Chestertown’s drama community and the parodies of movies like “Waiting for Guffman.”

Editor,
A big “Hail to the Chief” for the next President of the Garfield. He is a good neighbor, good father and a good friend. I do not think they could have a better person to lead the Board.
Heidi Usilton says
This is so terrific Jim and I love it that somebody else is using the term “swinging a dead cat”. Thanks for all you do.
