The Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre (GCA) announces the appointment of two new Board Members to its Executive Committee of officers, as well as the full slate of officers and board members for 2014.
Jim Landskroener has been elected to serve as the GCA’s new Board President. Landskroener succeeds Philip Dutton, who served as Board President since 2010. Dutton played a significant role in supporting the transformation of the Garfield Center during his tenure. He continues to serve as a volunteer and member of the GCA revenue committee.
Landskroener has been an active part of locally produced theatre for the past thirty years. He was a founding member of Actors Community Theater and has been involved with the GCA since its reopening, serving on the Board and as Chair of the building committee and appearing on stage. He teaches at Kent School and lives in Chestertown with his wife, Diane.
In addition to this leadership appointment, the GCA Board of Directors has elected a new Executive Committee. Judy Kohl will continue her role as Vice President. Morgan Ellis replaces Mark Sullivan as Secretary, and Vic Pfeiffer replaces Dick Barker as Treasurer.
The GCA also expresses its thanks for dedicated service to three other board members who are no longer serving: Armond Fletcher, Charles Athey, and Dick Barker.
Producing Artistic Director Lucia Foster and Managing Director Kate Bursick continue to grow the GCA as a home for local arts and educational outreach with the support of the GCA Board. “I’m delighted that Jim is taking the helm as Board President for the Garfield Center for the Arts. His 30+ years’ involvement in our community’s theatre scene combined with his passion for this community makes Jim the perfect choice to lead the GCA’s next chapter,” said Foster. “Serving on the board of a non-profit like the GCA requires time, dedication, and a commitment to improving our community. We are incredibly grateful to Philip, Armond, Charlie, and Dick for providing their time and talents to strengthening our organization and providing a positive impact,” added Bursick.
Since its inception in 2002, the Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre has enjoyed success in various community endeavors, including producing top of the line theatrical and musical productions, providing quality educational enrichment experiences in the arts for children and adults, and partnering with community organizations for fundraising and other events that benefit the broader community.
This year the GCA is excited to promote its 2014 schedule, including monthly events like Open Mic Night, Live Playwrights’ Society, and First Fridays, annual highlights like our Mardi Gras Dance Party, the 9th annual Women Helping Women benefit, Tea Party Festival and Downrigging Weekend concerts and events, and the GCA Community Block Party, and our educational opportunities – Playmakers’ Summer Camp and MusiCAMP. 2014 theatrical productions include By The Way, Meet Vera Stark, Inherit The Wind, and our 10th year of Short Attention Span Theatre!
