It is a rare occurrence in the news business where a good news story becomes the most popular over the course of the year. This happened to the Chestertown Spy in 2013 when the local Domino’s decided to prepare and give away free Thanksgiving dinners after being robbed earlier in the month of November.
The other top stories generally do however fall under the category of bad news. The region has been the victim of a unique and disturbing wave of crime as well as the ongoing issues and challenges facing rock Hall, Maryland.
The Top Ten Stories for the Chestertown Spy in 2013 were:
1. Domino’s Employees to Provide Free Meals on Thanksgiving
2. Suspect in Armed Robberies Completely Innocent
3. Spy Editorial: The Careless Rocking of Rock Hall’s Boat
4. Chestertown Heroin Arrest Largest Ever in Kent County
5. Rock Hall Mayor Moves to Fire Fithian as Town Manager
6. Bicyclist Killed on Quaker Neck Road
7. Willis Now Moves to Fire Town Attorney MacLeod
8. Charges Against WC Student in Fight Denied By Witnesses
9. Willis Blunders, No Support From Council to Fire Fithian
10.Willis Denied Passwords to Rock Hall Bank Accounts

For a community that does so much for us and gives us so much support, it was time to give our thank you and “pay it forward” so to speak. We stood up strong after our robbery and had numerous phone calls giving us the support we needed. Dominos can’t go on with out all of you, so thank you all! And thank you for making our thanksgiving extra special!

Editor,
S0 this driven by the # of clicks on the Spy? Five of these are essentially the same ongoing story (and yes, I see your editor’s choice top stories listed separately). Don’t get me wrong, the good heartedness of the people of Domino’s is a great story, but the top story of the year for our region?
If you are going to publish lists, please qualify them.
missing:
The largest election field and voter turnout ever in a Chestertown Mayoral Election giant oil leak at local hospital endangers town water supply (speaking of which, any recent follow up on this really vital matter?) closing of Fresh & Greens, Chestertown Pharmacy and the openings of JR’s & others string of robberies across local counties
The sign ordinance fiasco, … i could go on…

Editor Note,
The reader makes a good point on the lack of clarity on how the list was generated. We have updated the story with the number of hits associated with each article.
