It’s not often an antiques show is able to celebrate 50 years of supporting a non-profit in its mission, but for the Chestertown Antiques Show and Sale, 2013 will mark the anniversary of doing exactly that. With a Friday night Opening Reception and a presentation Saturday by Reid Dunavant, Senior Vice President of Doyle New York and Antiques Roadshow appraiser, the Show offers a comprehensive experience of special activities and quality merchandise to satisfy antiques and vintage enthusiasts of all ages and interests.
Presented over Thanksgiving weekend, the show helps to fund the work of the Kent Association of Riding Therapy (KART), an agency that uses a multi-faceted program of therapeutic horseback riding and care of the horses to help children and adults with disabilities enhance their physical, emotional and cognitive developmental growth. The scope of their work is easily understood via a video on their website: www.kentridingtherapy.org.
The roster of loyal exhibitors, who have consistently offered quality antiques, furnishings, accessories, art, jewelry, folk art and modern design, is further enhanced this year by the addition of exhibitors featuring maritime and nautical offerings, oyster plates, decoys and historical artifacts. The Show offers an intimate size allowing for personal interaction between customers and exhibitors, affordability, and a diverse selection reflecting not only current collecting trends, but also the interests of both experienced and young collectors.
The show begins Friday, November 29, with a complimentary Opening Night Reception for 50th Anniversary Celebration from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., as a way of thanking the public and antiques community for their support over 50 years. “This is an important milestone in the life of the show, and for KART as well”, Show Chair Renee Bench remarked. “It is a celebration not only of this milestone, but also of the many people whose support over the years has enabled us to achieve it – the public, our exhibitors, the community and our volunteers.”
The highlighted presentation will be a talk by Reid Dunavant, Senior Vice President, Doyle New York, who will speak on “Elegance and Decadence – The Apex of Fine Dining” on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Dunavant’s appearances as an Antiques Roadshow appraiser over the past eight years makes him a familiar face to many antiques enthusiasts. With over twenty-five years of experience in the auction industry, Mr. Dunavant joined Doyle New York as a General Appraiser of Furniture and Decorative Arts in 2000, and from 2002-2004, he was the specialist in charge of Doyle New York’s 19th and 20th Century Decorative Arts Department. In 2004, Doyle opened its first office in Washington, DC. and Mr. Dunavant relocated to that office where he supervises estate appraisals and general art and antiques evaluations. He also frequently travels throughout the United States aiding in business development for the company.
The show takes place Thanksgiving weekend: Friday, November 29 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, November 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Washington College Lifetime Fitness Center in Chestertown, Maryland.
