The Republican Central Committees in Caroline and Kent Counties have completed their deliberations and interviews and have voted to support Steven Arentz for appointment to the vacant seat in the Maryland House of Delegates for District 36. The seat was vacated when Steve Hershey was elevated to the Senate on October 1.
In Kent County, interviews were held last week and voting took place on Wednesday, October 23. Sandy Terpeluk, Chair of the Kent County Republican Central Committee stated “the decision was complicated by the fact that all the candidates were qualified and competent, but Mr. Arentz’s recent service as a County Commissioner makes him the most qualified to fill the seat with just a short time table until the 2014 Session begins.” Mr. Arentz won Kent County by a majority vote.
In Caroline County, interviews were held on Tuesday, October 22 and voting took place on Wednesday, October 23. Rob Willoughby, Chair of the Caroline County Republican Central Committee said “after much discussion and over three hours of interviews, it became clear to the members of the Caroline Central Committee that Mr. Arentz can build on his experience as President of the Queen Anne’s County Commissioners and hit the ground running in order to be a strong voice for the 36th District.” Mr. Arentz won Caroline County by a majority vote.
Kent and Caroline are releasing their results jointly as the result of a proposal that all four counties in District 36 release their results jointly. Caroline and Kent signed onto the proposal and while each county had a separate process and vote, the results are being released at the same time.
Mr. Arentz previously received the support of the Queen Anne’s County Republican Central Committee, who released their results last week.
