October’s “Call for the Wild Show” will be hung beside the “Woodworking Show” opening First Friday, October 4, 5:00-8:00pm at RiverArts 315 High Street, Suite 106. Visitors to our shows have often told us how much they enjoy our two-dimensional and three-dimensional art being exhibited together. Both shows will run through October 26.
Do you remember hearing the Canada geese in October? The call of the Canada geese as they return is a part of us, an expression of what it means to live on the Eastern Shore. To celebrate the arrival of the geese, RiverArts’ October show will be a “Call for the Wild”.
This show will bring to mind the natural beauty of the Eastern Shore: the land, the creeks, the bay and the marshes, just outside our back doors. Curators Terry Willis and Nora Carey have invited artists to exhibit their art which depicts what this natural beauty means to them. Works of art focusing on natural settings, free as possible from the imprint of civilization is the emphasis of this exhibit.
The “Woodworking Show” will include detailed carvings, gorgeous turned vessels, imaginative sculpture and assemblages, and beautifully crafted furniture. It will demonstrate how a humble block of wood can be transformed into beautiful works of art.
Regular Gallery and Gift Shop hours are Tuesday-Friday 11:00-4:00, First Friday 11:00-8:00, Saturday 9:30-4:00 and Sunday 12:00-3:00. For more information on RiverArts’ exhibits, classes, lectures, and other happenings for both artists and non-artists. go to chestertownriverarts.org.
