September 20, 2013 by The Mainstay

Mainstay founder and Director, Tom McHugh teams up with spoken word artist Captain Andy McCown and musicians Bill Matthews and Tom Anthony for a brunch presentation of Chesapeake Scenes at the Mainstay in Rock Hall, MD on Sunday September 29 at 11:00 a.m. Tickets are $15. For information and reservations call 410-639-9133. Information is also available at the Mainstay’s website https://www.mainstayrockhall.org.

For this special brunch-time presentation, the Mainstay will provide coffee, donuts and other treats while Chesapeake Scenes will provide their ever-changing mix of songs and stories that pay tribute to the beauty and majesty of the Chesapeake Bay.

Included will be original songs and poetry by Tom McHugh who sings and plays banjo and harmonica, spoken word pieces gathered and presented by Andy McCown and bluesy guitar and vocals by Bill Matthews all with the support of Tom Anthony on bass.

The songs and stories also pay tribute to the people who live on the shores and work the waters. The songs and stories are about everything from the love of an old boat, to a waterman working in winter, to what’s on the table in an Eastern Shore home.

Chesapeake Scenes has recorded a CD and performed their music, stories and poetry in venues ranging from local libraries to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

This concert is sponsored by Pennsylvania State University. Part of the proceeds will benefit Echo Hill Outdoor School.

The Mainstay (Home of Musical Magic) is the friendly informal storefront performing arts center on Rock Hall’s old time Main Street. It is a 501(c)(3), non profit dedicated to the arts, serving Rock Hall, MD and the surrounding region. It is committed to presenting local, regional and national level talent, at a reasonable price, in an almost perfect acoustic setting. Wine, beer, sodas and snacks are available at the bar.

The Mainstay is supported by ticket sales, fundraising including donations from friends and audience members and an operating grant from the Maryland State Arts Council.

For information and reservations call the Mainstay at 410-639-9133. More information is also available at the Mainstay’s website https://www.mainstayrockhall.org.
