New Belgium Brewing’s Jenn Vervier Speaks at Washington College October 1

As part of the Fall 2013 lecture series “What Can I Do With My Environmental Studies Degree,” the Center for Environment and Society will welcome Washington College alumna Jenn Vervier ’90, director of strategy and sustainability at the New Belgium Brewing Company, back to campus to talk about how to develop a career in sustainable business. Vervier will speak Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. in Hynson Lounge, inside Hodson Hall. Following her presentation, guests will be invited to sample a selection of New Belgium’s beers in the Goose Nest, which is located on the first floor of Hodson Hall Commons.

In her 18 years at the New Belgium Brewery, Vervier has been committed to developing the company into a corporate role model, reaching exemplary standards in sustainability and environmental stewardship. In addition to reducing waste and water reduction, the brewery also uses forms of alternate energy and promotes an internal electricity tax.

Based in Fort Collins, Col., New Belgium Brewing was named “the best place to work in America” by Outsider Magazine in 2008, and is perhaps best known for its flagship amber ale Fat Tire. Vervier’s talk and the tasting are free and open to the public. Sponsors include the Business Management Department and the J.C. Jones Program in American Business Leadership.
