Kevin Waterman, former Spy columnist and active Republican party leader, filed papers today with the Queen Anne’s County Board of Elections to officially declare himself as a candidate for Queen Anne’s County Register of Wills. The current Register, Winsie Canon, has announced her intention not to seek re-election in 2014 and no other candidate has filed to run for the office. He is currently the only candidate filed for the position.
Mr. Waterman stated “I look forward to the opportunity to work on behalf of the people of Queen Anne’s County. As Register I absolutely commit to maintaining the same high quality of compassionate, committed service that has always characterized Mrs. Canon’s tenure in the position – and more important to improve upon it. No matter how good it’s been, the people of Queen Anne’s County deserve better than just the status quo.”
“I have a three point plan to realize that improvement” continued Waterman “First, develop an outreach program to help increase access to wills and estate planning services in minority and economically disadvantaged communities. Second, look for opportunities to improve office efficiency to save taxpayer dollars. Third, help to ensure people aren’t overpaying on estate & inheritance taxes and make myself available to any legislator looking to reform either of these taxes.”
Mr. Waterman’s filing comes with the endorsement of former 36th District Delegate Mary Roe Walkup “I’ve known Kevin for many years now and having served in both State and Local government there’s no doubt in my mind that he is the best choice for Register of Wills.”
Bill Anderson says
With any due respect I wonder how, in the absence of any additional candidates having expressed interest in filling this elected postion, Mary Roe Walkup could offer an endorsement of Mr. Waterman that opines , ” …there’s no doubt in my mind that he is the best choice for Register of Wills.” Moreover, I believe that Ms. Walkup is not a resident of Queen Anne’s County.
