As the former Executive Director of the Humane Society of Kent County Maryland Inc., I would like to thank the residents and agencies that supported my efforts to improve the welfare of animals in Kent County. I was saddened to learn that my position would not be continuing.
Although, my time at the shelter was short I felt that I was able to make my mark on improving the facility which in turn enhanced the lives of the shelter animals and also welcomed the community to take part in volunteering, fostering, and adopting animals. During this time I was able to secure grants for spay and neuter programs, select a staff that had amazing talents with animals and promoted community involvement through outreach efforts. I am a strong believer an animal shelter will always be the receiving end and that in order to make a difference in the surplus of homeless animals you must be willing to reach deep into the community to make changes. It is my hopes that these efforts will continue.
It was a great pleasure to work with the County Commissioners and Administration to procure the needs of the Humane Society and I appreciate their support through the process. The people of Kent County are so wonderfully supportive of their Humane Society and that is one of the attributes that attracted me to the position. To have all personal differences set aside and focus on helping save animals and providing them with the comforts and affection that many of them had for the first time in their lives was a special gift to oversee. I was honored to be part of that and I wish all the best for the future of the Humane Society.
Respectfully,
Terri Wilkes
