Drivers who live, work and visit Caroline, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties will soon travel on 22 miles of newly-paved sections of roadway as part of several State Highway Administration (SHA) resurfacing projects on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Weather permitting, all overlay projects will begin April 1 and be completed before June 30th.
Work will occur Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. SHA will use variable message boards, temporary signs, cones and barrels together with flagging operations to guide motorists through the work zone.
A separate contract was awarded to Asphalt Paving Systems of Hammonton, N.J. for $332,475 for a slurry seal paving project on a three mile section of MD 328 (Matthewstown Road) between US 50 and Mullet Branch Road. Slurry seal is a machine applied mix of asphalt and stone dust that is a cost-effective way to repair cracks in the road surface.
Ten of the 11 remaining road patching and resurfacing projects are contracted to David A Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown for a total of $4.65 million as part of an area wide paving contract.
Caroline County
MD 315 (Bloomingdale Avenue) between Brown Road and University Avenue; and
MD 313 (Federalsburg Highway) between MD 315 and Possum Hill Road.
Kent County
MD 20 (Chestertown Road) between MD 288 (Crosby Road) and Shipyard Lane;
MD 213 (Church Hill Road) between Daves Hill Road and MD 290 (Galena Sassafras Road) – near the US Post Office in Galena; and
MD 298 (Browntown Road) between MD 213 and MD 291 (Morgnec Road).
Queen Anne’s County
SHA will resurface several sections of MD 18 (Main Street) between Love Point Road and Postal Road. This project will also include the roundabout at Castle Marina Road.
While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely.
