The newly formed Friends of the Chestertown Hiker-Biker Trail has issued a shout out for volunteers to help with the first organized cleanup of the popular path, which draws locals and visitors alike.
The event will take place Saturday, March 30 from 9 a.m. to noon. (Rain date is Saturday, April 6.) Volunteers will meet at the Dixon Valve parking lot. The town of Chestertown has supplied heavy-duty garbage bags. Volunteers are urged to bring gloves. Large garden carts would also be helpful.

I attempted to send an email to Gil but for some reason it would not go. Maybe he will read this comment, I just wanted to thank him for heading up this effort and to let him know I plan on being there to help.

I live near the trail and welcome this initiative to keep it clean and safe. Will there be a move to also beautify the trail? Low maintenance perennials would be an attractive addition to the trees recently planted, especially if they come from someone’s overrun garden.
We also need more doggie-doo repositories along the pathway as well as reminders to USE THEM.
