Rowland S. Holsinger, D.D.S., of Denton, left, dental chair, Eastern Shore Mission of Mercy, (MOM), meets with Reggie Monson, operations manager, America’s Dentists Care Foundation, to do a walk-through in preparation of the first-ever Maryland Eastern Shore Mission of Mercy.

Rowland S. Holsinger, D.D.S., of Denton, is dental chair for Maryland’s Eastern Shore Mission of Mercy, (MOM), a two-day full service dental clinic, providing free care for adults on March 15 and 16.

Staffed and managed by more than 70 board certified dentists and hygienists from the region, the event will be held at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center, 500 Glen Avenue, Salisbury, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. All patients must be 19-years-old or older, and will be seen on a first come, first served basis; no appointments are necessary.

Services include extractions, restoration (fillings) and cleanings. The number of services per patient will be limited to allow as many patients as possible to receive care. Patients should bring a photo ID. Delmarva Community Transit will provide transport and connection to Shore Transit buses that will shuttle people to the civic center. For more event information, call (443) 365-5776 or visit easternshoremissionofmercy.org.

“Smiles By Holsinger & Higgins has participated in many programs providing free or significantly discounted dental services. However, an event of this scale has never been brought to the Eastern Shore, so I am humbled to chair this event,” says Dr. Holsinger. “Dental health has improved slightly over the last few years, but access to dentists remains a huge issue particularly in rural areas. Although dental care like other medical expenses effects the poor more severely, the recession took a toll on insured patients who opted out of care so they could use their out-of-pocket costs on other needed expenses,” he adds.

In July 2000, the Virginia Dental Health Foundation launched the Mission of Mercy (MOM) Project. Since then the project has spread to several states. The first Western Shore MOM event served 810 people from seven states and 23 counties, providing $700,000 in free oral-health care. The Salisbury MOM event will be the first-ever for Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Southern Maryland hosted their first clinic in June 2012.

Smiles By Holsinger & Higgins opened in February 1986 and offers the convenience of comprehensive care for adult patients. They provide routine dental check-ups and cleanings as well as cosmetic enhancements to improve the appearance of crooked, chipped, unevenly spaced, or stained teeth. Since 2001 Smiles By Holsinger & Higgins has also provided sedation dentistry for the fearful patient or for those patients who wish to combine multiple procedures in fewer appointments.

Services include:

• Sedation dentistry

• NuCalm™

• Clear Correct (invisible braces)

• Six Month Smiles

• Single-visit crowns

• Implants

• Bonding

• Veneers/Lumineers®

• Facial Esthetics (Restylane® and Dysport®)
