With the spotlight on its volunteers at a January 6 celebration, CHT recognized that community theatre relies on a huge cast of members and friends who may never appear on stage. Instead, they paint scenery, design costumes, man the box office, stuff envelopes, run the lights and do all those other jobs that support the onstage magic. Board Chairman Sylvia Maloney called their energy and enthusiasm “priceless.” Board member and Volunteer Fest organizer Bonnie Hill, thanking all volunteers for their gifts of heart and time, announced awards to those who had done the most during the 2012 production season.
Awards were presented in the following categories:
Volunteer of the Year: Carmen Grasso
Exceptional Volunteer Services: Rebekah Becraft, Carolyn & Monte Hailey, Doug Kaufmann, Christian Rogers, Jim & Sue Urda, and Juanita Wieczoreck.
Volunteer Services: Bernadette Alderson, Liz Clarke, Brian Draper, Steve Payne, and Brian Whitaker.
After the award ceremony, the directors of the upcoming season described their plays and started lining up volunteers. As always, Church Hill Theatre seeks new actors, backstage crew, front-of-the house staff and anyone else interested in becoming part of this vibrant artistic community. Volunteers can call CHT at 410-758-1331 or go to the website (www.churchhilltheatre.org) for more information.
