Chester River Health will host an information program on the Shingles Vaccine on November 14th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Education Center on the second floor of Chester River Hospital.
The program will be presented by Dr. Fred VanDusen, who will provide information on the benefits and the risks of the Shingles Vaccine, and why learning about the vaccine is important for the mature adult.
According to the American Medical News, published by the AMA, those who have had chickenpox as a child are at risk for developing shingles. About 25 percent of adults are expected to do so if they are not immunized.
“Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is a painful skin rash,” noted Dr. VanDusen. “It can result in blisters in a specific area of the body, and once chickenpox has ended, the virus can remain in the body, causing shingles later in life.” This can occur years or even decades after a chickenpox infection.
Dr. VanDusen, a board certified primary care physician, will lead the presentation, followed by a question and answer period. The program is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served. If you have any questions, please call 410-778-7654 or email [email protected].
