RiverArts opens two new shows on First Friday, October 5 with a reception from 5 to 8:00. “Unfurled” celebrates the end of our summer blooms and sails on the Chester and Sassafras Rivers marked by Sultana’s big Downrigging weekend at the end of the month. Artists have represented the theme in a variety of ways including unfurled flags, wings, flower petals opening to the sun, sails, and abstractions in two and three dimensional art. You will not want to miss Beverly Sheppard’s acrylic, “Eye of the Storm,” Joyce Murrin’s “Star Spangled” wall guilt, Sharon Hardin’s oil on canvas, “Fracture #3,” Allen Johnson’s wood sculpture, “Aphrodisiac,” and Alice Pickett Lewis’ “Early Autumn” fiber art among many others.
Alongside “Unfurled” is the annual woodworking show, “Turnings, Carvings, Sculpture & Assemblages: The Wood Show” featuring some of our finest craftsmen. The beauty and warmth of wood will be represented by turned, carved, sculpted, pieced and assembled wood artwork. Jeff Haude’s “Stairway to Heaven,” Gene Adcock’s “Cats Eye,” Margaret Lospinuso’s three little black locust bowls and Doug Gates carved birds are must see pieces.
Both shows are hung in the main gallery at RiverArts and will run through Saturday, October 27. RiverArts Gallery is located at 315 High Street, Suite 106, Chestertown, and will be open during regular gallery hours: Wednesday through Fridays, 11:00 to 4:00 and Saturdays, 10:00 to 4:00.
