Do you have some free time and are you looking for a project to work on? Are you a creative person who likes to give back to the community? Have you ever thought of volunteering for a local nonprofit organization?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions you should consider the Chestertown Tea Party Festival. Now we are aware that some of you may be questioning this idea. Perhaps you’ve heard that the town handles all of the planning and executing of this event.
Well, allow me to let you all in on a little secret: We, the organizers of this festival, are all non-paid volunteers. We have husbands, wives, kids, and other jobs. We are locals who live in and around Chestertown and we have been the behind the scenes staff of this event for years.
We are looking for new people to join us on the Board, to bring new ideas to the table, and to help us create a more well-rounded environment for the education and betterment of our community. We meet once a month (except in May when we have two – three meetings) and more times than not we have refreshments.
As a board member there are several things you could do. We need an executive board, committee chairs and committee members. Some specific committees include, but not limited to, food and craft vendors, programming, wine tasting, and organizing the festival’s kickoff event. We also need point people to be in touch with our partnered events such as the raft race, Radcliff Classic Run, and the Tory Toss. And you are not relegated to just one committee. We also need advertisers, marketers to go out and bring us sponsors, and volunteers to work in booths on both Saturday and Sunday.
In short, the Tea Party cannot continue to go on without the help and support of our community and we would like for you to be involved. If you are interested in becoming a part of this organization’s organizers than please join us at our October 10th meeting at the Kent County visitor’s center or contact board president Heidi Milby at 410-274-9057.
