Art lovers will have plenty to choose from this weekend in Chestertown; on Friday the newly formed RiverArts (union of Chestertown Arts League and Chester River Artworks) presents their annual fundraising gala, “Art’s Alive at RiverArts,” and Marcy Dunn Ramsey’s one-woman show, Aspiration, opens at the Carla Massoni Gallery. Saturday marks the return of the popular Art in the Park, held this year in Wilmer Park on Chestertown’s waterfront.
Gala attendees will be greeted by a live American Gothic painting or one of Picasso’s ladies, as well as metal worker Rob Glebe’s Giving Tree, which he finished installing on Wednesday. For each donation of $1,000 or more, an oval piece will be inscribed with the donor’s name and attached to a leaf. Glebe created the piece specifically for the new location, telling the Spy that he wanted a, “contemporary feel to reflect the light in the gallery.”
