Town Manager Bill Ingersoll said some residents are mistaken to believe they no longer have to feed the parking meters downtown—simply because the Town Council has discussed permanent free parking to help local businesses.
Town Parking Supervisor Sidney Brooks has received complaints from residents who thought parking was now free, based on previous news reports of the discussions.
Councilman James Gatto said residents should feed the meters unless they are covered with official sleeves furnished by the town.
The Council will consider permanent free parking next year.

Free parking is not what the downtown needs. When the meters are bagged during the holidays, every space is taken by 10AM and the stores have not even opened. The poor delivery men have no where to park their trucks when they are attempting to deliver packages. They double park and that creates a dangerous situation.
We need a Meter Maid who does not do selective ticketing. There are certain business members that she constantly ignores. I have spoken to Bill Ingersoll, and three council members about the problem. It is difficult to watch a shopper receive a ticket when you see the same cars parked on the street everyday and never recevie a citation. For the life of me I can not understand how a business owner can park in front of their business’ all day…..personally I have too much respect for my customers and other shop owners.
