The highlight of Waldo’s 25th birthday party at The Compleat Bookseller last Friday was the fabulous cake created by Ellen Connor. Children and grownups alike crowded around to ooh and ah before shop owner Lanny Parks did the honors cutting and distributing.

Waldo scavengers had the month of July to find his  hiding spots in twenty downtown Chestertown shops, and gather a certificate from each  location. Once contestants gathered all

twenty certificates, they turned them into Waldo headquarters staff at the Compleat Bookseller.  Thirty-five contestants of all ages completed the hunt; the youngest  was 2 year old  Anna Shirk, and the oldest was seventy-five. Claire O’Brien was the first to finish. Birthday wishers had one more chance to sharpen their Waldo finding techniques Friday, as Parks had hidden twelve of them around the second floor of the shop prior to the party.

Parks took a moment to thank all participating businesses, adding that as  the event offered a chance for people to venture into previously unfamiliar stores, it was a terrific way to promote shopping  downtown.
