Kristin McMenamin, the Emergency Preparedness Planner of the Kent County Office of Emergency Services reported Sunday that Kent County had approximately 1700 residences without electric power. “County, State and Utility Crews continue to work together to get power restored. As you clean around your property and communities, be mindful of down power lines. Treat all of them as if they are still live. Call your power company and make a report.
To assist residents with today’s heat, the Kent County Community Center will open, as a Cooling Center, from 11am to 6pm. Please keep in mind that a Cooling Center is a location for people to get out of the heat. T
There are no personnel present to assist individuals with items such as medical concerns. If a medical concern develops, dial 9-1-1 as you normally would.

Drinking plenty of water and being aware of all the safety tips during a heat wave is critically important. All too often people contribute to their own situation through ignorance of the risks. Family member and friends can help out the elderly and in-firmed. Be aware and be prepared.
