Isabel Junkin, Policy Specialist at the Chester River Association reports that last weekend’s “Project Clean Stream” trash clean up event went over without a hitch.
“It was a beautiful day; we started at 10am with a total of 13 volunteers,” she wrote in an email to the Spy.
“Four volunteers were from CRA: Heather Forsyth, David Foster, Mike Hardesty, and myself. Nine of the volunteers were members/walk-ups. Of those nine, two are Chester Testers and one is a member who got the email and decided to come. A father/son duo from Washington College heard about the event and walked over to participate. And the other four were three students from Kent County High School and one of their moms.”
Part of the cleanup took place at Gateway Park, the projected entrance to Chestertown’s Rails to Trails path.
“By cleaning up trash at this site, we helped this effort,” added Junkin.
Part of a greater movement across the Chesapeake Bay watershed, Project Clean stream works to coordinate volunteers at over 200 sites.
The volunteers, according to Junkin, cleared roughly an acre and a half of trash, amounting to 11 large trash bags, 7 tires, and 2 metal drums.
“By 11:30 were all happily eating goodies from Evergrain,” said Junkin. “A morning well-spent!”
