Tickets are still available for Crossroads Community’s Second Annual Flying Pig Roast, to be held at Piney Point Farm in Centreville on May 5th, from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $55 each or $100 per couple. Groups may reserve tables of eight and be treated to a special pig roast package, complete with drinks and appetizers.
The Flying Pig Roast’s theme is “Defying the Odds,” signifying the challenges often faced by Crossroads Community clients. The organization provides mental health recovery resources for residents of Kent, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Talbot and Dorchester counties.
Proceeds support a special fund for its clients’ dental services, which often are not covered by other medical assistance. Dentists Neil Brayton of Chestertown and Thomas Downs of Centreville will be honored during the event for providing significant discounts on dental work for Crossroads Community clients.
The upscale catered pig roast with all the trimmings features entertainment by the Bay Country Gentlemen, a bluegrass group from Queen Anne’s County. Piney Point Farm, on the Chester River, is the home of Lea Brooks, a former Crossroads Community board member and longtime patron. Tables will be set up beneath tents in case of inclement weather.
Both live and silent auctions will be offered to give picnickers an opportunity to support Crossroads Community even further.
Baltimore Orioles fans and collectors will want to bid on the out-of-print 1995 Beckett Tribute to Cal Ripken, Jr., signed by Ripken and authenticated by the IronBirds organization, or the manager’s-style Orioles leather jacket. A gourmet dinner and entertainment for ten guests at a private home in Easton is being offered, along with a“Day in the Life of a Waterman” package complete with breakfast and lunch. The wide variety of donated items also includes a handmade mosaic table created by Brooks, an original painting by artist Marcy Dunn Ramsey and much more.
Sponsorship has been provided by CNB and Chester River Hospital Center, both returning from last year to support the event once again. Additional Flying Pig Roast sponsors include Triton Wealth Management, American Legion Jeff Davis Post 18, Peoples Bank of Kent County, Shore Health System, T.R. Klein & Company and Trionfo Builders, Inc.
Event chair Mary Lou Pagella expressed her appreciation to Brooks and the other donors, sponsors and volunteers who are working together to ensure the Pig Roast’s encore flight is even more successful than its debut.
