Dr. John LaFerla’s campaign has conceded victory to Democratic primary opponent Wendy Rosen, thanks to the inclusion of a final batch of absentee ballots accounted for this week.
“Now that most of the absentee and provisional ballots have been counted, it is clear that the result of the Democratic Primary in the 1st Congressional District will not change and I will not be nominee of our party,” stated LaFerla in a press release today.
Initially trailing Rosen by a mere 84 votes, according to the Maryland State Board of Elections, the LaFerla campaign is now touting wholehearted support for Rosen in preparation for the second and final jaunt against Tea Party Republican incumbent Andy Harris this November.
“With the Democratic party united in our battle to defeat Andy Harris, I feel confident that we will be victorious in November,” Wendy Rosen stated in a Wednesday evening press release after meeting with LaFerla. “[Harris’] extremist views have lead to high disapproval throughout the district and his desire to eliminate Medicare in order to subsidize another tax break for millionaires and billionaires shows just how out of touch he really is with the needs of his constituents.”

Hats off to John Laferla. I would have loved to see him win, but he again shows is a gentleman and scholar. We should be proud of our neighbor. It takes real patriotism to stand in the breach and run for Congress, but to oust Andy Harris I am sure it was worth it.
Congratulations to Wendy Rosen.

John LaFerla was the first district Democrat to declare against Andy Harris.
His race with Wendy Rosen was as close as most races ever are.
He makes me proud of our party, and the sort of Democrat who can persuade others to stand up to be counted.
Well done, John!

Congratulations to Wendy Rosen. Harris is not a foregone conclusion for the 1st District. Rosen’s strong stand for small business is important for the Eastern Shore. If every small business were to add one more employee- we would go far in bringing down the unemployment rate. Cultural tourism is also big issue for Ms. Rosen and efforts in this area will do much to fill empty storefronts in small towns across the 1st District. There are many in our region who can help Ms. Rosen articulate a message that can unseat Harris. I hope everyone will be able to embrace her as “our” candidate.

Congrats to Ms. Rosen.
Please get over here to C’town so we can get to know you.
Class guy, that LaFerla.
