Alex Rasin, Kent County Commissioner, announced he will be resigning soon on Tuesday’s night meeting.
Rasin indicated at the Commissioners meeting that he was resigning in reaction to the state of Maryland’s power over the counties. It is also known that Mr. Rasin has faced a number of health-related challenges in recent month.
Mr. Rasin was born and raised Chestertown. He had earlier served on the Kent County board earlier from 1982 to 1990. He was president for four years from 1986 to 1990. He decided to run again for commissioner in 2010, for more info click here.
His resignation date is June 29, 2012. As of right now, no successor has been named. The question up in the air now is how his replacement will be decided.

I’m surprised that this isn’t getting more run now that we’re in the react phase. Unfortunately, we are seeing that it takes a bomb threat or a bus fire to get some run on the Baltimore news circuits or even WBOC. So Commissioner Rasin’s resignation is understandable to those in the know. Perhaps if this were done by someone with influences outside the region (e.g. Wayne Gilchrest) it might get more run. The reality is that this probably will not register with the casual observer, save for whatever perception comes with leaving an elected post.
So we move to the replacement phase (Finding our own Mr. Right). Since the voters made a good-faith vote in 2010 for a certain balance on the panel, hopefully the State will honor that balance as the RCC sends its selection for approval by the governor. Also, since the voters were voting on a seat that was to be occupied through 2014, the replacement should be selected from the pool of candidates who were eligible for the seat during that election cycle.

Is the reference to 2012 correct? or was it meant to be 2010?
The link leads to the article re: 2010 election.
